Ulster Tatler
Vibrant new art gallery for Northern Ireland
North Down welcomed an exciting addition to its vibrant and growing art scene recently in the form of The Whalley Gallery. Situated on the bustling Holywood High Street, the gallery is set to attract art enthusiasts from all over Ireland. The beautifully designed space spans three floors and is fronted by husband and wife team, Dawn and Stephen Whalley. Aged just 26 and 30 respectively, the couple are among the youngest in Ireland to take the bold step of launching their own gallery. Also artists themselves they will both be exhibiting in the gallery. The dynamic team will be offering a unique range of paintings and sculptures from leading well-known 20th century artists such as Paul Henry, Dan O’Neill, William Conor, Tony O’Malley, Gerard Dillon, Basil Blackshaw and are particularly passionate about recognising local, up-and-coming talent. The gallery currently will exhibit a wide range of paintings with a total of 80 on view for the launch including work from well-known Irish artists such as Jack Pakenham, Gavin Lavelle, Jane Swanston, Rosie McGurran, Lisa McCausland and Jonny McEwen as well exciting emerging talent, painter John Gillan and sculptor David Withers.
