My work explores the myriad characters we each become through the course of our lives and the desire i can see in each of us to hang on to the common thread of our own personality. This is complimented by the feelings of discomfort and insecurity which alienate us from ourselves. Any painting process which merely tries to capture form and ignores the feelings, emotions and being behind the outer shell holds no interest for me. Instinct and flexibility are vital to my work and my attitude towards my subject can change radically as I go along. I can never predict what the outcome will be. Jamie began painting in his earlier twenties under the guidance of other local artists; primarily Tim Weir and Jonna Patton. He was asked to take part in a two man exhibition entitled 'faces' in belfast. A profile of Jamie was featured in Home and Lifestyle magazine. He now exhibits throughout the Greater Belfast area.
